Rem/Age Barrel, your first hand thoughts

I'll ask these questions again, since I did not recieve any infomation the first time I ask. :(

What is the maximum outside diameter of the Rem and Savage barrel nuts?

What is the total overall length of these nuts?

Tia,
Don

i personally have a 1inch bull that is the largest i have seen thus far. the length of the nuts vary the pac-nor nut is about 3-4 inches long with a tapered appearance i cant remember exactly right now. while the CBI nut is a exact copy of the savage nut

Off the top of my head, I would say the Savage nut is about one inch long and the thickness is about the same as a conventionally chambered barrel just ahead of the action. If you're wondering about how it would sit in a stock - well, don't worry about it.

Here is a pic of a Savage Target Action with barrel nut sitting in an unmodified stock.

Thanks for the info,

The reason I asked, is that, I have a 1" diameter bbl, and the stock width where the bbl nut would go is 1.300" wide o/s edge.

I have concerns that barrel nut may creat a thin spot in the stock at this area.

Tia,
Don

Couple of gents I shoot with have had a rem-nut barrel installed on a Remington 700 action. They like it. Think one has 2 rifles with it.

I have 3 Rem/Age barrels with Rock Creeks on the Remington actions and they shoot great, I mean reeeeeally great! They shoot just as well as a few of my custom actions. I can only imagine that gunsmiths hate them, they are very simple to put on and with the ability to take barrels on and off so easy I can have multi calibers for the same rifle, just a Go / No Go gage and your done!

I have a Criterion in 6BR that I am going to test the barrel against my Kreiger on my "known good" action. I haven't shot 6BR in a while... Been shooting 223.

I sent you a PM.

For those of you that don't like the clunky look of the Savage type nut , Pacnor makes a nice tapered one that fits the Rem/Age barrels. It is about 2 1/4 inches long vs the 1 inch of the Savage type. The Pacnor nut is about twice the price of the nut you get from Jim Briggs.

Does the PacNor nut work on a Savage? Need a new nut wrench? I love my Savages but a new smooth looking nut wouldn't hurt the looks.

I have installed several of these for fellers , Some I keep the Rem lug others I set up for Savage style recoil lug.... With Rem there is no reason you can't switch from barrel to barrel without the Nut as long as it was fitted to that gun. Just more choices for the shooter and I think that is a good thing D Just My 2 Cents
