Rem #7135 22-250 SS convert to 22 BR ??? cost ???

Was looking at the rem model 7135 in stainless and was wondering if a 22-250 to 22 br would be an easy conversion. Of course the next question is who and how much. Thanks to all that post, as i read and analyze all suggestions.

You would need a new barrel if the twist on yours isn't compatible with the 22 br twist necessary for bullet stabilization. It will end up a single shot or you can find someone to make it work as br cases don't feed to well at all. I have read that some guys have found a way to make them functional repeaters and I am sure they will chime.

The bolt face will work for this conversion. Not sure if you planned to re-barrel or cut factory barrel back & re-chamber. If you re-chamber - you should talk to your gunsmith 1st to make sure he has enough material to accomplish. I assume this is a repeater - the BR may or may not feed well in a repeater. I have an XR100 that started as a .22-250 that I re-barreled to a 22BR. It is very accurate, but this is a single shot action - so no feed issues. I also went with a 1:12 twist. A standard Rem 22-250 is usually 1:14 twist which is a bit slow for any bullets over 50 grains in a 22 BR. Just my two cents.

Good Luck,
Terry

it has been done many times. and works well. the 14T will work with most any bullet
up to 55gr some 60gr flat base also. any good smith can make a magazine and follower so it feeds. or can buy one ,http://www.6mmbr.com/Rem700MagFix.html
I've done many.
Hardest part of job is getting Factory barrel off without marring.

I would estimate that at 3 hour's shop time, would more than likely be less.

Easily my most accurate rifle is an early 40X Remington which began as 22-250 and was rechambered to 22BR. The 14" twist is perfect for the 50/55gr bullets I shoot. Finding accuracy is just ridiculously easy with this cartridge. And 22BR accuracy loads will be at least the same velocity as 22-250 accuracy loads with those bullet weights.

There's nothing wrong with that conversion. But bear in mind that factory chambers are generous and have sloppy necks with too much freebore. You'll want the new chamber to be tighter and doing it right means taking off enough barrel for a whole new smaller neck, and no freebore. That means cutting off the whole threaded shank. I've had it done with a couple Rem sporter barrels and it works ok. But the barrel taper is closer to the action. I'd prefer to start with a varmint contour barrel instead of a sporter.

It can be done you can cut the barrel back or put a new barrel on it. The 14 or 12 twist will work.I'm building my 22 br with a 10 twist.due to I got a good deal on a hart barrel a friend had. If the 22br won't feed Wyatt's custom makes a center feed magazine box for the BR cases. It works if not Hart makes a nice single shot follower. Dies are available online. I hope this helps. As this is my first post on here.
