Rem 700 SA Pic Rail

I’ve got a Remington 700 SA action and want to put a 20 MOA rail on it. Do they only come in a single unit or can you get them in a 2 piece system?

Reason I ask is if it were able to be in 2 pieces it would leave the port less obstructed.

Well, is it really a "rail" if it's in two little short pieces??? Why not just shim the rear until you have what you need??

To my knowledge the 20 MOA rail is one solid piece.

I use a 2 piece base with the Z rings. They have just the regular inserts and the ones with different thicknesses. I put the thickest insert in rear bottom  and the thinest in the front. I forget how much more MOA it gives me but they work.

A one piece rail virtually eliminates the need to lap rings. If you use a quality rail and quality rings and shim or bed the rail to keep from distorting it you do not need to lap the rings. Two piece bases invite ring misalignment.

For 90 bucks a brownells shim kit is way way cheaper. Just get std mounts and shim the rear .020 thou and see if it gives you what you want.

Zee rings with inserts are the way to go if you shim the rear on 2 piece bases. The inserts rotate within the rings and will give you more MOA or correct for misalignment if the mounting holes or bases are slightly off.

The bases will be on 2 planes as mentioned and you'll but a kink in your scope if you shim the rear only. If you shim a one piece then bed both bases for 100% contact with the receiver.

Of course the easiest is bases with the MOA built in, 1 or 2 piece. I tried a 20 MOA one piece but didn't like it and the Zee rings and inserts fit the bill for me.

After reading your suggestions and looking around some I think a one piece rail is the way to go.

I’m leaning toward aluminum. Any opinions for or against aluminum? Or recommendations on a brand.

Thank goodness all the hubbub calmed down. Get an EGW extended. Steel.
Here. I just pulled this out of the trash. I mounted it yesterday. The extra length provides a little room to adjust for eye relief while giving you a longer stable base. I also highly recommend these rings. It’s all I buy, anymore.

I put them on my recently resurrected 700 5R 308. I have no issues with access or ejection with the One piece rail.

I see lots of EGW stuff on eBay, but from the pics it looks like they come with Allen head screws so they're not for me.
