Rem 700 Recoil Lug Pinning Fixture (I would like to buy one)

I saw several really simple lug pinning fixtures posted on here. Can I buy one?

Make your own with some 1.5” aluminum. Figure out the center of the action ring and scribe it on the face with a regular cutting tool and no matter how its clocked you can drill thru the stub right into the center of the action ring. You can put any number of pins in there you want then and with a carbide drill you can go thru the lug at the same time

oh i thought thats where i bought mine--i got a clamp that holds the recoil lug in place when you tighten the barrel and saw someone use it to drill the action /recoil lugs i thought.

I think that is the Holland fixture?

yeah they sell a recoil lug alignment fixture for several different lug. sorry about that

I have the Holland tool. It is nice, but a bit pricey and over-engineered for a lug drilling fixture. It is marketed more as a precision sine bar for scope work than as a lug fixture and I've never used the sine bar feature. I had to make a new plug for it to fit my oversized (1.080x16) action threads. If I had it to do over, I'd just make a V block out of a chunk of aluminum.

It's a pretty good fixture for anything that requires holding an action in a consistent position. I also use it for bolt stop slots.

What brand of bolt stop? I have a R700 action that has the side holes for a side mount sight. It looks like yours might be long enough to eliminate them.

Yes I did. I don't know how accurate it is. I used a mic, a caliper, and a set of radius gauges. I took an average of readings from a sample size of one.

I don't think it'll quite cover up both holes. I recall taking a look at one at the range one day and the front hole will probably interfere just enough to make it ugly.

I install these with a blind pin hole from the bottom.

I position mine to cover one threaded hole but not the other.

Nice work Jerry. I like the cleaner look of the blind hole from the bottom. How do you hold the action for this cut? The Holland fixture won't allow this.

Is there any means of removing the pin once installed?

I hold it on a mandrel in a collet indexer. I use a solid pin. I machine a 3/16 recess and leave the pin slightly proud so it can be removed with needle nose. I toyed with threaded pins like the AR15 bolt release pin but decided it was more work than it was worth.

Been awhile since I've done one but I think I used a 4-40 bolt turned down.
