rem 700 recoil lug jig

I bought a kleindendorst recoil lug jig and it seems to be to tight. I measured my factory recoil lugs and the measure 1.096 and depending on how I measure the jig it is about 1.086 but it seems to have a bur (not a real good true machined surface on the sides) So , I have two questions can I stone the fixture so that it fits better and also is the most important thing to have the recoil lug exactly centered to the receiver or just the same each time in reference to location? I was going to try the nitrating process on a 6.5 caliber which requires the barrel removal and replacement. Thank You, RW

Just stone it until you can get it as centered as you can and don't worry about it.

Diameter of the hole is important, flatness is more imortant. If the lug sits .002 lower on the action than a lug perfectly centered, who cares. Flat and square lock up is the most important thing. When you have a barrel in the lathe and you are fitting the action......hand tight it just "STOPS". Thats good lock up on 1- action face, 2- lug, 3-barrel shoulder. Like Preacher said, don't sweat some things

thank You for the information, I was more questioning the centering of the recoil lug to the bottom screw hole but as you said I might be sweating something that I shouldn't be! Thanks again, I am learning from every one Else's knowledge, RW
