Rem 700 recoil lug jig

What is the best way to remove and replace the recoil lug on a Rem 700?
do you have to have a expensive jig or is there another way to get them on straight and true? If a jig is the only way then were is the best place for a inexpensive one? Thanks RW

You can't tell it in the picture but if you read the description it mentions about how the blocks are machined out on one side to fit over the recoil lug. I own one and it does work especially if you are putting a hunting rifle together or any rifle that isn't coming apart all the time. If the rifle were coming apart all the time I would suggest pinning the lug, but this tool will work just to align the recoil lug every now and then. I hope you all were able to understand what I was talking about. I actually bought this tool to take Remington 700's apart and also bought recoil lug alignment tool that brownells has only to realize that action wrench serves a dual purpose. I should mention that if you don't have the factory recoil lug or one shaped like it you will need the other tool. Brian.

I'm using the same recoil lug alignement tool except mine is made by Kleindorst. Works great for those of us who do not want a pinned recoil lug.

I have and use the very fine Kleindorst tool. I have an action wrench like fullerssons as well. I just couldn't understand how he used it to index the recoil lug in exactly the same location everytime.

I see what you're saying DocEd about the action wrench. My understanding of the original question was a tool to remove and replace the recoil lug on a 700 and this tool serves that purpose.

I carefully grind a notch in the front face of the receiver just like the Savage bolt actions have and then use a recoil lug from SSS. I grind the notch so it is an interference fit on the locating 'pin' so I am sure the lug indexes the same every time.
