Rem 700 Lv 223

Bought used gun it looks as if it were safe queen. This is older discontinued model with the bad but pad that turn gooey. Skim beded front of action and recoil lug . I also removed psi point located on front of stock. Also installed trigger tech diamond , it wearing a 4×12×50 meopta with Ken Farrell ring and bases. All I have shot is factory ammo winchester white box 45 gr jhp .It shoots horiable any suggestions before I make it 204?? I do reload but prefer not to with this one since I have an abundance of this factory ammo setting around.

Just curious: How did it shoot before you skim-bedded it and removed those pressure points in the stock? Those LVSFs have a reputation for shooting well out of the box, with the pillared B&C stock and those "nubs". I have two of those rifles; my .204 shoots cloverleafs with handloads and only a lightened trigger -- never touched the stock.

If you shot that target at 100 yards and the squares are 1" that group is not bad for factory ammo. I would try some hand loads before you change the barrel.

I have one of the LVSF's. A nice light weight walking varminter!!! I had problems with it, & got a bit discouraged. But, had my gunsmith recrown muzzle, & bed action properly into the stock. I did try different weights of bullets. Finally got it to shoot 50 gr. Nosler ballistic tips, & Hornady 53 V-Maxes pretty well, when I do my part. Only has a 4-12 scope... I'd try some other factory ammo, or some well crafted handholds!!!! Don't give up on it too soon!!!!!! Just my $0.02 worth.......... Idaho-45

I'd try a couple different factory loads with bullets in the 50-62 gr range (if you have any) before making the switch. As noted above, ~ 1 MOA isn't all that bad for that ammo. I've shot some of that Win 45 gr white box ammo in a custom built .223 bolt gun that shoots bugholes with handloads or FGMM. It didn't shoot any better than about 1 MOA for me either, and I know it's not the rifle's fault. Anyhow, it's worth a shot before making any major changes.

Thanks guys I will give some other loads a try. 10 yes ago before all my custom rifles I would have been satisfied, I guess it's easily to get spoiled shooting custom rifles with handles then going to a factory rifle and ammo .

As previously suggested you should try other factory ammo varieties to see what works well in that particular rifle. I'm not knowing what the twist rate is in yours but my 700 5R in 223 is a 9" twist and the 69 Fed GMM work well for a factory cartridge. Or experimenting with lighter bullet hand loads as that rifle could have little mileage as it appears to be a safe queen

I'm fairly certain that the LVSF 223 is going to be a 1-12 twist, but, I'm not 100%. I am certain however it is not 1-9 like my 5R 223......
