Rem 700 in 375H&H ( with picture)

I found the stock a few years ago and it spawned an idea. I then found a used 7mm mag stainless rem 700 in an HS precision stock. Sold off the stock and barrel and brought the action and stock to my Local Smith. He order a Lilja barrel and chambered to 375H&H . He cleaned up the action, opened up the rails so it would feed properly and worked the trigger down to 3 pounds. Finished project turned out just like I hoped it would. Groups 300 grain accubonds under an inch but it’s a lot to sit at the bench and trigger a box of ammo.

I think it’s a look you either love or hate. I love it.

I used to download the old speer 235s for practice. It kicked but nowhere near full power loads.

Was stupid with mine. Bought a classic Model 70 Winchester, claw extractor/controlled round feed. No brake but I was "the man". Friend wanted me to go to Africa with him. Then he went to Russia, adopted two kids and blew off the hunt. Figured I would use it for fun and normal hunts. STUPID.

Developed loads for it on a local range. One day I shot it from the bench 18 times and felt hideous pain. Separated my shoulder. Took a year to recover and in the interim I added a muzzle brake.

No matter what bullet I tried on deer they were like solids, punching a non-expanding hole that meant I had to chase them down after a long run. Worthless on deer. Maybe some old 225 Speer hollow points at a much slower speed would have worked.

I like my 338 Win Mag much better.

Interesting, my old 375 H&H does have recoil, but it is firm, yet smooth in pushing back.
To me a 338 Win is sharp and harder. But I guess we all take recoil differently.

I actually feel like the recoil is a lot like my 300 weatherby. Now I also have a 458 Lott and after 4 rounds of that my arm started to go numb!! That’s a lot of recoil!!
After guiding big game hunts for the last 15 years I despise muzzle breaks. Yes they do take recoil and are good in that respect but the shockwave and noise is brutal when you are standing off to the side a little trying to see where your hunters bullet hits.
Just my humble opinion though. Thanks for the kind words on this rifle build guys, I do enjoy the way it turned out, appearance and performance wise.

I never have gravitated towards the blonde stocks. That being said that looks great, beautiful piece of wood and the dark accents, the butt pad, pistol grip cap, forend and dark checkering tie in nicely with the matte scope. Nicely done.
