Rem 700 cocking issue/ timney trigger/ UPDATE

rwj- thanks for the info. The last description is for a green loctite and it says for use with set screws. Wonder if that’s what was on my gun?

Could well be as it’s a “wicking” compound that can be applied after the assembly has been adjusted into its final position.

Green is so thin it can get into places where you don't want it - very dangerous on a trigger (locked up a 1911 when I was just trying to get it on the overtravel set screw). And very tough to get off.
Fingernail polish stays on my bench for trigger adj. screws.

Thanks guys for all the responses. Seems to be consensus of sear engagement and pull weight...along with the opinion they suck! Lol:D:p

One thing I failed to mention was when this first came up, shortly after I bought the trigger, I contacted Timney and requested a replacement. They would not do so and gave me some suggestions on how to remedy the problem. I bluntly told them I was not a gunsmith and expected a new trigger to work properly and was concerned about possible safety issues if I did something wrong. We went round and round they would not replace. I’m pretty handy with farm work, carburetors, light electrical etc but I don’t know a damn thing about a trigger except that if it doesn’t work right someone can end up dead. I’ve been provided some good info here and through PMs so I’ll tinker with it. If I feel the least bit uncomfortable I’m going to go another route. There is another thread on here about Trigger Tech triggers...I’ll research them some.

Again, thanks to all for your help!
Triggertech are good triggers. Christensen is using them on their rifles.

UPDATE- With instructions given by members I adjusted the sear and did quite a few dry fires and it cocked every time. There was a small nut on the sear adjustment to lock it in place. It had a green glob of something to keep it tight. Should I put some loctite on it now that I’ve broken it loose?

Thanks to everyone for your help!!

Great to hear.
Use a big gob of the wife's nail polish over the nut and screw to lock it in. I purchased my own black nail polish specifically for keeping trigger adjustment nuts in place. The thicker "gel" type nail polish works best. Color doesnt matter because you'll never see it when the rifle is put together.

Good advice from some knowledgeable folks in this thread.

I've put thousands of rounds down range with a Timney trigger, but prefer the Trigger Tech. My Timney has done the same thing yours is doing. I adjusted it and put fingernail polish on it. Hasn't moved since.

Good luck OP.
