Rem 700 - chamber out of spec ?(

i have a rem 700 now that wont close on a go gauge. My dies will just size the shoulder back enough if i set them to camover. im not going to just run a reamer in to deepen the chamber because the chamber is cut very crooked. So if I rechamber i need to bore the old chamber out concentric with the bore. The barrel tapers quickly so there is just barely enough room to do this. FYI
Sounds like it's barrel time to me. But not before a call to Remington. Larry

Yep, I needed a magnifying glass but there is definitely contact at the body / shoulder junction. Didn't see any contact at the neck / shoulder.
Could this be a burr in the chamber or a poor reaming job ?

give me a call I can talk faster than I can type.

Well, I found a local guy with some go- no go gauges & the rifle wouldn't close on the "field" gauge & started to close on the no go. closed on the go gauge so it's within spec. I'm carrying it to my builder Friday to square up the bolt lugs & do a glass/pillar bedding job.
Barrel looked good in bore scope.

Based on what you are saying here, the problem is you and your sizing technique, or lack of understanding thereof, and not the rifle.

I don't think that factory brass & factory ammo chambering tight in my rifle has anything to do with my techniques or lack of knowledge...

I said based on what you are posting. If head space is OK and the brass does not chamber, it is sized wrong by somebody, or the bolt and/or chamber are in axial misalignment, or you may be jamming the bullets into the throat. Could be something else too, but how the hell can you figure it out on the internet?? Did your "guy" with the gauges look for other issues, or just gauge it? Head space gauges only measure shoulder datum, nothing else.

Had builder look at rifle....headspace is fine. He said to just let the bolt cam headspace the tight new brass & fire form it. Never be an issue after that (which I've confirmed). I'm having the rifle re-crowned, action trued while the barrel is off, & pillar/glass bed. It has one of the older 700 triggers in stainless so I'm going to let him tweak it for now. I'll replace with a Jewell if not satisfied.
I had no intentions of "fixing" my rifle on the Internet. Didn't really think it was broke to start with...Just looking for some valuable insight from people with way more experience than myself & I appreciate all the responses.

Thanks Kendog, I already made an appointment with a guy in Houston (Roberts Precision) to have the rifle inspected & probably accurized depending on his findings. He does really good work & specializes in Remington 700's & bench rest rifles. Think 3 of his rifles are in the top 50 competitors currently. He built me a 25-06 that is scary accurate.

Piney,
That's your best move. If I were you, I'd also have Roberts "TRUE" the action as I wouldn't be at all surprised if they find either a custom chamber or one out of whack if it's a general production rifle.
