Rem 700 actions all the same?

The rem 700 scoped rifle packages that sell for under $500 make me wonder.. Is there any difference in quality between the regular 700 action and the bargain rifle version? A bare action alone is $500 on Brownells, so how can they sell the scoped rifle for $500?

Most of the bargain 700's are that really rough finish, and with a $5.00 ADL tupperware stock..
I've seen the scopes sell new for $25.00....
Other than that, the actions spec out the same....

When Remington was really Remington!! I was just just being cooked the year this film was made.

The best advice I give my customers when they want to build a Remmy based rifle......Go to Walmart, buy the cheapest (long or short as needed) rifle for 500. We then throw away (or sell parts) and true the action. Once it is trued, it becomes a keeper.

The cheap Walmart actions are way more rough than the ones from Brownells. You can't make the rough ones feel like the better ones, other wise they work the same.

Ok cool, maybe the cheap actions can use the brownells polishing tool on the guides.

Great vid JS, I was surprized to see all the computer drafting and electronic testing that long ago.

You can polish the cheap ones , but then the bolt to action fit has more slop. We just got through doing a couple of each and it is noticeable.

Booby is so right. The WalMart specials are really loose compaired to a wood stocked ADL or BDL. The bolt movement up and down make a trigger change the weight of pull. The best thing to do is to replace the whole firing pin assembly with a Tubbs unit. Lap the locking lugs and square the face of the action to the threads. As the bolt finish wears off the diameter gets smaller and looser in the action body.
YET many a good match rifle are made off these actions. But they ARE different than wood stocked models.

Cool, thanks I figured there had to be a difference. WHat about the normally priced synthetic SPS and SPSS models? I kinda like the 308 sps varmint.
