Rem 700/722 safety "notch"

I'm working on my old 722 and realized today after getting a new trigger that it doesn't have the safety "notch" that the modern actions have...

Has anyone cut/added this notch?

I did a few many yeas back. Works OK. Aside from the notch the tang of 721/722's are very slightly different from a 700 but it worked just fine. If I remember right, I put a 0 MOA one piece base on it, turned the action a quarter turn counter clockwise in the mill vise, squared it to the back jaw with the underside of the feed lips and made the cut with a 4 flute end mill. Cant remember what I registered off of but once you get it set up something will jump out at you. Then just copy a 700.

Sure, just do as above and use a v-block on the underside of the receiver against the vise jaw. That plus the base on the receiver top makes it easy. If your vise jaws are too tall, use a trued piece of steel or alum. to raise the v-block. Not really too important to make a precision cut. I use a carbide endmill at high speed , makes a nice smooth finish.
