Rem 700 6br max barrel weight/countor

Haven’t had a new rifle built in over 20 years. Building a new rifle for my young son, will only be shooting paper/steel at 3-600 yards. Have an unused rem 700 single shot action to build with and thinking an mbr stock to make it easier for him to shoot. My question is I see different thinking on how much weight a rem 700 action can handle for a barrel. Was thinking a Kreiger hv at 28” but that’s a 7.5# barrel. Would this put to much stress on a trued 700 pillar bedded in an mbr stock?

I have a 28" Broughton MTU Contour on a trued Remington 700 SA that shoots awful good. My buddies have 700's with MTU contours on them that shoot good too. I believe the Remington can handle anything you put on it.

If its a bench gun..... 1.25 straight and forget about anything else!
The action can take a straight 1.250 x 32" length but a tapered barrel of some kind has less torque when shooting. They will both shoot the same accuracy except for control of the muzzle between shots. Try it and you will agree!!

To what degree of a taper would you recommend.
