Rem 600 Mohawk ????

I saw this as the description for a gun listed for sale and I dont know anything about it. IS is a remington action orsomethiing else? Is it a good action to build a starter benchrest gun on? any input would be very helpfull. THANKS Duey

Duey,
An XP-100 single shot pistol action would be a better entry level action of choice.
Stock inletting & the dog leg bolt handles make them the odd/ugly ducklings of the Remington line up.
The Rem 600/660's are a repeater version rifle action.

Remington 600/660s are a cult classic collectible; even in poor shape, they bring big $$. They make great hunting rifles because the action is so compact.

Like Dan said, they are repeaters, so they have a magazine cut in the bottom of the action. Can it be made into a benchrest gun? Probably. Are there more practical actions out there? Definitely.

If you are on a tight budget, I recommend the Savage target action. They sell just the action. It can be seen here: http://www.savagearms.com/TA_223_Bolt.htm It is a good, solid platform for building an accurate rifle. Street price is in the neighborhood of $400 +/-. If you want a different bolt face than the .378 inch 223 Rem, you can purchase trued floating bolt heads in almost any size from sharpshootersupply.com. It takes less than 5 minutes to change out the bolt head.

i have a mohawk in 308 i want to have a rifle that can be used on bench varmint deer what to do sell trade modify barrel to varmint from a 700 rem

what iam asking is can a rem 700 varmint barrel work on mohawk and to be ideal for bench shooting varmint and deer or should i leave alone and get another bolt action rifle

Given the vent rib on the 600 i doubt the 700 barrel would work.
If it were me I would leave the 600 alone and buy another rifle. The 600's are becoming too collectable to monkey with.
Besides you'd be losing a great deer rifle.
