Always check the book value before buying. Then factor in that the book is listing Vegas prices and value may well be somewhat different depending upon where in the country you are. Value however should not be drastically different. At $625 for a single six, I'm betting he keeps that one for a while. Never paid more than $400 OTD for any of mine and that includes those with original box and papers.

How long ago? I bought a pristine Marlin Model 39A for that amount 5 years ago, but you would be hard pressed to find a similar example today for less than $800.

Bought a rare 4 5/8 barreled Ruger 3 screw single six, like new in the box with all papers and extra magnum cylinder for $400 two years ago. It looked unfired. GB purchase.
