Rem 40x 300wm

Adam 6mm build

Silver $$ Contributor
Just acquired this rifle 40x 300wm what is a good powder to start with use would be ringing some steal out to 1000yrds and Maybe hunting

I'm usually loading 4831 at 180SP. Loading amount is between 70 to 75gr.
But, my 700 having hunting barrel is too light, under 8lbs. that cause a bit hard recoil.
If you don't mind the cost, there are newer powders. I'd prefer these traditional #.

Re26 gives surprising velocities maybe even 100FPS+ over more traditional powders and the accuracy seems encouraging. New technology I guess. Might be hard to find, people are looking for that 100FPS+.

What twist is your barrel? Remington website says 12, hope that is wrong.

Should be 1 in 10" twist.

Powders ??? Can depend on bullet weight. But RL-26 works well all bullet weights 180 to 245.

RL-26
RL-25
RL-23
H-1000
Retumbo (210--245 gr bullets)
H-4831 (works for 180 to 215's for raw accuracy, but other powders get you more speed)
IMR-8133 (215-245 gr bullets)
IMR-7977
IMR-7828
Viht. N-160
Vhit. N-165
Viht N-170 (215-245 gr bullets)
Viht. N-560
Viht. N-565
Viht. N-570 (230 - 245 gr bullets and lots of freebore so bullets don't impede into the boiler / powder room)
Ramshot Magnum
Norma MPR
Norma MPR 2
Accurate Magpro

3 most popular powders from that list are H-1000,... RL-26,.. & Retumbo

Well, I loaded 4895 at light bullet about 150gr. That can over 3000 fps, but over spined at my 1-9.5. That's no problem at under 600yds. 1000yds... hmm, tried anyone at light bullet?

Doesn’t is seem like a lot of these 300 Win 40-X’s were made but only slightly used? I know that for years it was the staple LR bullseye competition round. I have taken home a few from stores to see a nearly new condition factory barrel. I have to admit I too, also don’t shoot them much.

I always chuckle how discretely the Custom Shop stamped 300 “Win” on 40-X barrels compared to how lavishly they engraved calibers like “6mm Remington BR” on others.

That is as close to a "universal load" as I've ever seen.
During the Indiana state quarantine I loaded every piece of 300wm range brass I had with that that load with 180gr Ballistic Tips... just in case.

Yes stacy I found the golden ticket rl 22 77.5 grns 180 noslers WOW now we have a winner literally 1 whole at 100yrds this rifle is amazing WINNER WINNER

THAT WAS THE COMBO THAT I SHOT THE NC 1000YD RECORD WITH BACK IN 1996 4” GROUP AND A 50 SCORE WITH 4 SHOTS IN THE X RING
