QuickLoad .300WM

Guys was just looking in QL for a buddy that has a new .300WM and looking for a load with RL22 , so what which cartridge input do I use given that there is a bunch to choose from that read like this;
I can't find an explanation in QL for these designations.

.300 Win. Mag.(R)
.300 Win. Mag.(W)
.300 Win. Mag.(@)
.300 Win. Mag.(F)
.300 Win. Mag.(N)

Mike.

And I'll add that this data selection can make a large change. At first I was using remington brass which has smaller capacity measured by H20 however when I switched to Norma I had to adjust accordingly. Turns out that my Norma casings were getting close to a 300RUM rem casing for capacity.

Thanks Guys , it never occurred to me that it would be different cases. I guess I will have to choose 'nominal' as my buddy's brass is all RWS.

Weigh the H2O overflow case capacity of 10 of his cases and use that information in the Quickload calculations.

Cool Hand

That info is the average H2o capacity's of THAT brand of brass,
I ran into the same thing when helping a friend load for his 300 Win MAG.

To have the best result,
you should check the average H2o capacity of the brass you are using,
then you can use said info when using QL, you can also make a case file for that rifle etc.

Yes, measure your case capacity! I find they are often off quite a bit. For example Rem brass in qL says 88 gr h2o, I measured 93.5! Big difference!!

The most accurate measurement will come from a case fired in the chamber of the rifle in question. The QL instructions say to add water to 'overflow capacity' - is this where the water has an obvious 'bubble' (convex meniscus) before a drop runs down the case or what like most people do, where the water level is flat?

QL is a great tool but only with the input of accurate data.

For what it's worth, in my experience using QL with my guns, the projected max pressure seems lower than actual: shiny rings on head of Lapua case when peak is in 'pink' range.

louielouie,

Reverse the images for water, or use the mercury image.. When filling to overflow, the water meniscus bows in the other direction. This is standard, overflow bows the other direction.

As for your other observation, that's why they recommend staying in the -15 percent range. Even if very consistent in minutiae, stuff starts changing, especially with temperature changes
