Reloder 17

I got a 5 lb. container of Reloder 17 for a belated Christmas present today. I am Happy as can be.
Funny thing is it is the same lot as the powder I have been using to work up my loads. Manufacture date is April 15 , 2009. This can was stoicked on a shelf in Pennsylvania last week. How is 5 yr. old powder just making it too the shelf. Government stopping it at customs or what ? With the storage of supplies you would think the manufacturer and the distributors would be anxious to ship and sell all they could.........

Just a guess, but I suspect it sat on a wholesaler's shelf for a long time. Many of us jumped on the Reloader 17 bandwagon when it was first introduced. It was the hottest thing since.... Demand was very high for a while and retailers and wholesalers responder with orders that then quickly became excess stock when the hype subsided.

If you can make Reloader 17 work, great!
Scott

It has not been much of a problem getting powder here in Pa. Even varget was around if you looked. Some places buy a lot of powder at a time and keep it in a warehouse. My guess is it doesn't sell well in that area. We have a lot of oldtimers and they won't switch to the newer stuff. They like the ball powders. Matt

One other thing about the Reloder 17. I have bought it three times since it came out. Once around the time it became available. Once about two years ago, and now this week and all three lots I bought were the same lot number. Some was bought in Pa. Some in Casper Wyoming and Some here in Buffalo. All the same lot number is strange.......

P.S. It works in my .260 ,.243 and have been waiting to try it in my 7x57.
With the .260 it shots .3" groups is consistent and predictable and has SD's in the single digits. Can not ask more from a hunting gun. And its WAY faster then anything else In my gun!

wyo260, I'm sure this isn't the case with your situation, but one day I was in Shipton's in Sheridan, looking for Norma MRP2, guy says, boss has a bunch of it at his house, I'll have him bring it down. Turns out it was MRP.

Locally around here have seen bare shelves one day, the next an assortment of powders that didn't really make much sense as far as an order would go. My thoughts are it was bought from some person dumping it to make money, and priced the same.

At least you've had the same lot to work with. :)

I know what I have on hand, but I would bet in this state, there are some stash's that are unreal!

Just strange to get the same lot of powder 3 years and 1900 miles apart..... I think Shiptons owners have a huge stock pile....... and make up for it in .22lr prices. ;)
