Reloading without testing

Long time ago a guy I knew wanted me to reload some 06 stuff for him. The agreement we made was that this would be an opportunity to parhaps get him into reloading as HE would be the one actually reloading with my gear. I showed him how the reloading manual was read and applied and after he watched me through the entire process he used my components to load about 20 rounds. Borrowed another guys chronagraph and shot them at the range with good rsults.
However, he decided that he would rather just pay me for the components and have me relaod for him.
I declined. He eventually got into reloading and now reloads much more than me.

As noted, the legal consequences can be devastating.

I kind of had a reverse of this with a couple we had invited over for dinner. He had an older semi auto handgun and asked me to show how to shoot it. I should have known better as the first round caused the gun to blow up with metal shards hitting my face and eye glasses. His wife then said that he must have done his first reloads wrong (9mm). I suffered only minor injuries, thankfully and didn't have to go to the e.r. Glasses saved my eyes, but scratched badly.

Needless to say, they were asked to leave without dinner and we haven't spoken to them since. Lesson learned............

So. has anyone ever heard of an actual legal case where the "reloader" was gone back to as a party to a negligent suit? I mean we all hear these "never for legal reasons and liability"..... similar to the ones that say "never modify your carry gun"

But can anyone name SPECIFIC examples of court proceedings that support this.

I'm not advocating doing it but just wondering if its actually been done where the reloader has had to defend himself.

Occasionally I get asked to help reload some ammunition. For example a friend of mine has a 6.5 Grendel he loves but can't seem to source ammunition so he wants to buy the components and have me load up a few hundred rounds. I'm more than happy to do it, but without any type of testing with this rifle, how do you select a powder and powder charge?

If someone gets injured with your reloads you could be sued for large amounts of money.

When i first started loading, several friends ask me to load for them and i did for a few but soon it became to much to keep up so i began to end most of it. I still have one really good friend hat i load 454 Casull for but these days, if ask by a friend, I explain the liabilities and offer to let them use my tools and offer to do my best to guide them but only if they are willing to do some reading about things that are important to safety. So far, not he first one has ever showed up with components ready to start.
