I just shipped a reloading press to a member here. $60 to PA from AZ!! Wow!!

Last year I shipped a set of Coues deer antlers to a nephew in California...$94.00 Fed Ex. I almost choked!!

Shipping is a huge cost. It is all about volume it takes up in the truck, not weight, although they add that in too.

I try to use USPS Flat Rate Priority if at all possible. Even if it requires a little dismantling of the item. I do state this in the add or in conversations with the buyer so it is agreed upon in advance with the buyer. Either that, or sometimes I just have to have the buyer pay the freight.

I had a plain brown box packed up to ship some items to a fellow member last week the USPS lady quoted me $23.85 I turned around and picked up a bigger medium flat rate box and asked her to securely tape it up for me. Then it went to $15.05 .....? I don’t understand the thinking behind that?

USPS flat.rate box. All i ever use.

Shipped a few.rifles USPS after I priced them with UPS. Less than half.price.always

UPS Stores will not ship anything pertaining to firearms. Wouldn't even ship a scope. Have to take a rifle to the UPS terminal. USPS doesn't ask except for the usual explosive, flammable and whatever.... and how much you want to insure it.for. they have never.lost a package of mine
For me UPS and FedEx are way down the line.

Unfortunately this press was too big for the largest flat rate box even with the handle removed. And with the post office losing 2 items for me last year, I have to add actual insurance cost and signature confirmation.

I just shipped a scope to a member here this morning. Wyoming to Utah, suppose to be there Wednesday plus $500 insurance. $34 is what it cost. I guess I didn’t think that was real bad. I can’t drive one way to Utah for even close to that. But then shipping to some places are way higher but closer. Their shipping sometimes don’t make no sense.

A little known method of shipping via the post office is regional rate boxes.
Usually if you ship within a few states it will save money.
You have to order the boxes from the post office and pay using your computer.
The boxes are free and they deliver them to you and you don’t have to deal with the people behind the counter.
Win-win

Flat rate shipping on a loading press, with the weight they are, you better watch it. The gorillas with USFS will not be gentle.
Had a clerk talk me into flat rate box, over the box, wrapping and lot of tape I had it in, to save some shipping money.
Wish I had stayed with my wrapping and paid a little more, as the flat rate box, arrived at destination, but with a hole where the main body had broke out and did not make it.
Yes insurance was on the flat rate, but overall I lost on that one. So it just might be worth the extra shipping/freight to send some thing like that in a very well wrapped and secure package.

I shipped some stocks and a chargemaster and noticed a significant increase in shipping costs. The new business model is for shipping companies to offer huge discounts to volume shippers while raising prices for individual shippers.

You can get some discounts by printing your own shipping labels. It is the human interface that causes them to raise rates. The more you can print your label and drop it off the better chance we have of keeping rates down.

With the new postal rates I cant figure out how they are losing a dime yet all they do is cry all the time. They need a full audit to see what they are wasting money on like endless TV ads that cost millions a year. They don't need to advertise because we all know what they do.
