Reloading Mishap — Bullet Weights

I only use the inertia puller when I seat a bullet too deep, the rest of the time I use a collet type bullet pulling die.
I read "Inertial Bullet Puller Warning" and I see how it could happen, but don't see how the bullet ended up going through the ceiling. The bullet was pointed DOWN! It was the bottom component. Unless the whole head of the puller went through the ceiling. That would have made a big hole.

Moral of story: Be very careful handling primers and always wear safety glasses.

I have used an old Midway kinetic puller for years. Often I use it to disassemble preloaded match rounds to adjust the load for the next match. I know how easy it is to get a brain fart and grab the tool and just begin to swing when you realize you have the cartridge end down and that "something is different" feeling stops you. I have used s/h's when I could not find the factory supplied holders. As a matter of fact the s/h's place the primer much deeper than the factory holders affording more protection should someone use the tool upside down. I have learned early on to snug up on the nut to ensure things stay centered. IMHO these accidents happened because they hit the wrong end.....the old "it's never their fault" syndrome"

I wasn't going to share this out of embarrassment and frustration, but after soaking on it a while, there might be a youngster out there that will benefit.
I recently got back into reloading pistol ammo. Ran across a good deal for a few hundred 115 grain Berrys bullets. Bought em up and put them in inventory.
Finally slowed down work enough to get going on them with some Titegroup powder. Loaded 20 rounds starting about 1 1/2 grains below max and working my way up. Took them out and shot them w nothing out of the ordinary (in my mind anyway). I did find a couple of pieces of brass that looked like they fired out of battery. Pregnant guppy looking case.....Hmmm. I better back down off max.
Go home and finally have time to load again a week later and crank out about 300 rounds 1/2 grain below max. I have some powder coated 115s I am wanting to try out and pull them out of the package. AND WAIT. These ain't 115s.....or those other aren't 115s. They look different. Well chit. Lo and behold those Berrys are 147s. I wonder what the powder charge is for those? A full grain below what I had shot! Those were some hot puppys. I had started at slightly below max and went waaaaay past it.
They say the Lord takes care of babies and fools. I didn't blow my pistol up so we know what he was doing that day.
Lesson learned....I did verify bullet diameter but didn't weigh them. I received them in unmarked packaging. Shame on me. And for the record I don't think there was any ill intent on the sellers part. Absolutely on me.
Any of you newbies just learning, slow down and be thorough.
Now....any pointers on easy way to dismantle overcharged 9mm rounds?

Hopefully by sharing this fubar you may help someone else avoid the same mistake. Could save more than just embarrassment.

I just bought a Frankford arsenal piledriver bullet puller to dismantle about 300 223s. It works fantastic in my opinion. Might want to give it a look.

Don't be embarrassed. It's good to admit mistakes so that others, and yourself, are aware of what to watch for. I've made a number of mistakes over 40+ years of reloading and have lived to tell about it. I'm lucky that when admitting them I was guided by others a way to form my processes that helped eliminate those mistakes. But, rest assured, you are not the only one to make them.

When ever I get bulk bullets I do a random check of several (less than 10) Both weight and diameter.

You can see, when you're working with one type/caliber of bullet, if you get a change. You can also see the bullets not going into the case correctly.

Powder is where most of us screw up. We look up one load then at the last minute decide to use a different bullet that would use a different amount or brand of powder. Keeping one and only one powder out is a good way to not confuse what's in the hopper still.
