Reloading Dies

Hi all. I am new to the forum, and have a question about reloading DIES.
What would be the reason for, Or advantage of Using 300 WSM hand dies with a .308 diameter neck bushing, to load 7 mm WSM?? As oposed to just using a standard set of 7mm WSM Dies? Thanks and good to meet you all. Steve

Welcome to one of the most informative sites anywhere.
I had some of the same questions and I am not qualified to give you a clear answer, but if you will search the subjects on this forum you will find all the info to make a clear decision.

If you use a type s bushing die you can adjust and control your neck tension as with just a standard set of dies you can not. With the type s die you can git a bushing to put light tension on it for match shooting or a heavier tension for hunting purposes. Hope this helps and welcome to the forum!

It was in an article on 6 mm Benchrest.com... I now see what the deal is. He was using 300 WSM BRASS to make the Brass for his 7 mm WSM, Also he used the 300 WSM dies with .308 bushings to form them down to the 7 mm. You can also use this type of Die / bushing to adjust the neck tension for different ussages i e target/ hunting. So my question has been answered. Thank you all...

but that would not give you a true 7WSM as the neck/shoulder junction is farther forward on the 7mm that it is on the 300. so you would end up with a 7/300 WSM. but you can make 7mm by necking down 300 to make a false shoulder at the correct length for the 7mm chamber. Good question and keep them coming. this is a great site to learn from
