reloading data for shortened 6.5/308 cartridge

Hello,
I have acquired a SS heavy target barrel for my Stolle action. Virtually unfired, marked 6.5 IHMSA; neck. .285. Barrel has an 1-8.5 twist. 29.5 inches long. The cases are Lapua .308's, cut to 1.875 long with a sharp shoulder and neck turned. Case capacity (liquid) is 48 grains. Logic dictates this was designed for mid range target usage.

Is there anyone out there with an extremely sophisticated loading program
that could give me some ideas as to the powders and potential velocities for loads for 130-142 grain bullets? I'd really appreciate anyone help in this matter. If this cartridge was designed for pistol usage originally I know there is nothing "out there" for data for a 29.5 inch barrel in this caliber.

Howdy !

IMHO -
You can interpolate load data from 6.5 Creedmoor 1.9117" oal, .470" base diam, .459" shoulder diam, 1.338" base-to-shoulder dimen;
and from 6.5X47 Lapua 1.8606" oal, .470" base diam, .4587" shoulder diam, 1.202" base-to-shoulder dimension.

Load data for those to cartridges should give you a good idea of where to start-out w/ your cartridge' loads.

I'm working on a 6.5mm wildcat in this case capacity range, and that's how I'm going to get an idea of where to start w/ initial loads.

According to Quickload, the 6.5 x 47 Lapua has a case length of 1.850 and a H20 capacity of 48gr. Might work?

My Hodgdon 26 edition list data for all the I.H.M.S.A. calibers. They came in 25, 6.5,270,7mm,30,8mm,338 and 35.

The case originally was made from 22-250 cases necked up. For the 6.5 Maximum case length is 1.880 and trim to length is 1.870

I am going to try to scan the data for you and post it here.

This data comes from a 14" pistol barrel as for the velocity.
