Reloading 45 ACP But....

Yes, I remember when the Blazer aluminum cased ammo first came on the market, and the box included a warning that it was not to be reloaded.

A guy on the pistol team, too cheap to buy the excellent G.I. brass, reloaded the aluminum Blazer cases & they all split open base to case mouth with the first reloaded firing.

Since then I believe they have also offered Blazer ammo loaded in brass cases.

Just got finished loading all my large primer cases now it's back to the small primers. I've been thinking and I'll try to buy .45 ammo that uses the small primers which would make it easier to switch back and forth between other smaller calibers without having to change over the primer slide in my press. I know it's not that big of a deal to change but it's one less step to do in the long run and since I don't have any other calibers to load that require large primers.

I know that Blazer Brass is small primers but what other brands would be in small primer?

This is not entirely related but may be of some interest. Once while on the firing line at a 2700 i realized i reloaded some of my ammo with lg rifle primers and was worried about shooting it. They were all i had and i decided to give it a go and had no problems with ignition or otherwise.

I have some federal that's small primer and some Winchester NT that's small primer. I'm not sure about other brands. All I know is it's like hitting a brick wall when one comes through the press and it's added an extra step to sorting.

Evidently you have not tried to reload CCI .45 aluminum. I have a dozen twice fired laying here on my bench that I reloaded and fired just to see how they would shoot. Used small pistol primers. Nice tight fit. Shot just as good as brass. I would not recommend repeated firings because the aluminum surely will not liked to be reworked. Later! Frank
Blaser=CCI. same stuff
