Reloading .338 Lupa

I am looking to reload .338 Lupa Mag. I have Hornady Brass and Large Rifle Primers, I am looking for Hornady 250gr BTHP Projectiles, and also what type of Powder would I use. I hope someone can help me with this thanks. my email mchlcreel@yahoo.com, or my number 719-351-4616.

Anything from h4831 to n 170 in burn rate will work but this is all barrel specific .I hope you are using mag primers. On a personal note h 4831 with 250 scenars jumped 20 thou. with a fed 215 m primer was the most accurate combo for me.Also gave 3000 fps.Good luck!

Do NOT use Hornady 338 Lapua brass. I have seen quite a few rifles shooting Hornady 338 brass and having alot of trouble. Get Lapua or at least Norma. Federal 215 Mag primers only also. You will thank me later.

Using only Norma and Lapua brass-no problems and i am up to loading #3 on them. I do anneal every other loading(Ken Light system) and have tried H-1000, Retumbo, H 4350 H US869 and H 4831 with sierra 300 HPBT and sierra 250's.

Best performing so far has been the 300's with H 1000 that have given me the lowest ES and SD.
Accuracy has been fairly similar that combo and H4831 but I got wider spreads with the 4831
Since it is a long range load I like keeping ES and SD as low I can.

As previously stated, each gun is an entity unto itself and what works for me may not fit your needs.

Like some others above have mentioned, get Lapua brass.
I gave away my Hornady brass, not worth the hassle.

300 gr Scenars with 87.5 gr Retumbo is where my firearm is happy.

Re: Reloading .338 Lapua

I have a 98B. My gun really likes H1000 with the 300's and H4831 with the 250's.
Lapua cases, F215 primers. I load to mag length.
What a hoot to shoot! I sold my Barrett 99 to get it. It seems that as we enter our Golden Years, we do get smarter. ;)

In my TRG42, 10 twist barrel: Lapua cases, Federal Large Rifle Magnum; 96gr. H1000 and a 300SMK shows right at 2700fps on a Magnetospeed unit.
This load is safe in my rifle.
The magnum primer is required to light the H1000 powder, especially in cool weather. We had tried the Russian Large Rifle as it worked well with the 260/308 family but we had several failures to ignite with the H1000 when temps got below 35 degrees F. Just my .02

That is real interesting Signut on your results. In all the testing I've done in many large calibers h 1000 always proved faster than retumbo and I could get about 93g of retumbo behind a 300g bullet with a 338 lapua getting about 2800 to 2850 fps.I have yet to test 300g bullets in my cartridge but that will happen soon.
