Reloader 25 and Retumbo

retumbo can take the changes. it is a single base powder (no nitro) therefore it is more tolerant of temp changes. i believe that reloader 25 is a double base powder so it will be more sensitive to temp changes. i use retumbo in my custom .300 win mag shooting 240 grain sierras, and i plan on wearing that barrel out with retumbo--in other words i like the powder.

Used Retumbo and RL25 in a .243 Savage 12FV for F Class two years ago. Compressed loads under 107 MKings. Both chronod the same. Shot on hot summer days with great accuracy at 1000 yards with both powders. Never saw any difference in external ballistics between the two. Will leave it up to the chemical engineers to debate the internal ballistics.

Thanks for the info. I'm using H-1000 currently which seems very temp stable but I was getting much better velocity with the other two powders during load development so I may switch back.

REGARDING .24 caliber heavy bullets, I'd suggest Alliant RL-22 powder simply because RL-25 and Retumbo are F-A-R TOO SLOW burning for practical .243 loadings. Why ask for additional bullet drop from lowered velocity due to sluggish powder charges? As if 1000 yards wasn't far enough, why encumber a 115 grain slug with drastically-lowered velocity? Just wondering . . . since my my RL-22 loads get to the target before I die from advanced old-age. Cliffy

I did extensive testing with various slow powders (RL22, H1000, Retumbo, RL25) in the .243 using 105s and 107s. RL25 gave me the highest velocity, 3050 fps, with the lowest pressure signs on a hot summer day. The loads were heavily compressed which ruled out 105 AMax because the AMax jacket is very thin and deforms when seated over a compressed load. 107 MKings were the most accurate and their tough jacket doesn`t deform over a compressed load.
