Reloader 22 for .243 w and. 95gr. Nosler bt s

Hi guys . I've used RL19 for many years but acquired some RL22 and Nosler bt s 95 grains. I have a Tikka t3 lite which I understand has a 1 in 10 Twist rate. There seems to be a lot of differing opinions on this particular combo stabilising and/or giving good groupings. Any thoughts on this much appreciated, Pete

Howdy !

FWIW - I have read the RL-22 “Burns” comparatively hot.

It provided my most accurate loads, when used in my “DEEP 6” wildcat, at least.... thus far.

I say thus far because I want to find a known to be temp stable powder for my use in this wildcat, plus one that is kinder on the barrel

My wildcat has 51.2gr H2O capacity, compared to .243win @ 54gr.

I can very nearly fill my case w/ RL-22, under 95 VLDs ( Berger, Sierra ).
I can completely fill the case w/ IMR7828 unde 6mm bullets of 85-108gr and still have ok pressures.

My powder trials these days are w/ RL-23 and RL-26. I have been surprised to find that charge was for RL-23 run about the same max in my rifle as did TRL-22. Charge weights w/ RL-26 are a bit higher, but case fill is not all that much different from what is w/ RL-23. Difference in powder density is a contributor, here.

I’ll probably also try RL-25, when I get around to it.

I’m shooting Sierra 95 T-Mk right now. I am also using FED Large Magnum Rifle Match for all loads.

RL -22 has thus far provided the best accuracy. I have work to do.

These 3 Reloader powders would be a slightly better fit in a long barreled
.243 than it is in my 29” DEEP. But, I have no specific velocity goal I have to obtain, and accuracy is biased to the fore on my loads ( varmint/ target)

I had done a lot of load development on a particular .243 and found RL19 and RL22 to be two of the most accurate of about 8 powders tried in the rifle. I was loading 62 Barnes Varmint Grenades. Those shot .400" MOA. I ended up settling on the RL19.

I found that a 58 VMAX Liked N140 but best 5-shot group was .078", shot with Rel. 15. Best group I ever got out of one of my hunting rifles.

Interestringly, IMR4831, Varget IMR4895 and several other powders which supposedly do well in most .243's shot terribly with all bullets tried.

It should be great. My new favorite is R26. I recommend it highly.

How'd you 357Mag. Thanks for the info. I picked up the RL 22 half price as normally use RL19 /RL15 so I've got work to do . Cheers

Hi there, searcher. Thanks for the info. Opinion seems to be that RL19 and RL22 are at their best with the heavier 6mm .243 bullets . I've just loaded a few to see how things go. Cheers

That 95 grain Ballistic Tip is a great bullet. I use it my 243 Winchester and 240 Weatherby. Very accurate and lethal on deer. It will also blow a big hole in large varmints.

I've tried RL-22 with 90's and 105's.

With 90 gr Berger BT, I went up to 48 with out pressure... 2.780" COAL.
With 105 A-max, I went up to 44.5 with out pressure... 2.795" COAL.

Alliant Lists RL-22 for 100 gr Speer BTSP 2.625" COAL, max being 45.5 gr

I would guess with a COAL between 2.710" and 2.750", your max would be somewhere around 47 gr RL-22.
If your using Military 308 brass necked down, I'd reduce the max by 1.0 gr.

Edit:.. Forgot to mention, I stopped using RL-22 because POI changed too much from cold to warm barrel. Thus confirming RL-22 is not very temp stable powder.
