Reloader 17 please share experience

Hi

I have 3 calibers which I like to share a powder namely

338 Lapua magnum

6.5 x 55

6 x 47 Lapua

I understand from communications with Alliant in Switzerland that it is similar to H4350 in burn rate their data looks like its written by their legal department wrapped in silk paper

Can anybody share some real life data with me to save some range time please ?

Thanks

BTW

Anybody tried R17 in a BR case ?

I got good results with a 338 Lapua AR 30 using Sierra 300 MK and IMR 7828....Also RL 25....Pressure was a little high with 7828 at max book load...OK for money shooting...too hot for fun shooting....Fed 215 M primers...Cannot recall exact powder grains....3 rounds .600 range @ 200 yds....

I have been working with RL17 in my 260 rem 8 twist savage. I have been from 41 gr to 44 gr so far with nothing very exciting. It shoots well, but, I can't seem to find a single point where it really pulls in tight.
I am probably going to go back to the H 4350 which groups well, but, doesn't give me all the velocity of the RL17.
If anybody has been above 44.0 gr with RL-17 in a .260 rem with 130 bergers, please let me know.

thanks rc

for the 6 x 47 Lapua

If you don't mind where is your accurate node with Reloader 17
and did you get increase in velocity without increase in pressure as everybody is talking about ?

I am hovering around 2910 with N160 at the moment

Thanks

I tried 17 on both .308 and 6BRX to see how it compared with 15 and Varget. I averaged 180 f.p.s. slower on both guns. Accuracy wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as 15, which I suppose is strictly because of the velocity difference.

Same experience as RC had, good velocity but accuracy and ES/SD wasn't there. Went back to H4350 for accurate loads.

I still use R17 for hunting loads that don't need that tight of performance, it's unbeatable for hunting rounds in my opinion. I'm getting 3400 FPS out the 95 VMax in my 6.5CM (47.5 Gr R17, 2.670", Hornady brass) which actually shoots flatter than any of the other varmint loads I had loved in my .243.

Londonhunter,

I didn't do any load development for the 6x47, loaded 39.0 gr. RL17 with 105 gr. AMax and it put 5 under 1/2" at 100 yards, and being a hunting rifle, I called it a day! ;D

I have shot a lot of RL17 in 6BR and .308. It performs very well in both cartridges. 6BR with Sierra 107 MK molys just tops 3000 from 30". Berger 210 BT-LRs in Winchester .308 brass provide 2660 in 30". ES/SD is very good in both loadings. Since both these cartridges are pushing the burn rate at the slow end, they perform best when loaded to full pressure.

I just came back from the range. Reloader 17 shoots well for me 40.8 gr. .004 off the lands with a 107 smk yields a 3/4" group at 200 yards in a 6mm remington once fired and neck sized brass. It shoots faster than R22 or H4831 It has a 3" higher point of impact. I beleive to get the full benefits of R17 you need to shoot heavy bullets for the caliber you are shooting. I would not use R17 on lighter bullets. It reaches full potential with heavy bullets.

I have been using both Re17 and H4350 in my 6x47 and have decided to stay with H4350 as it is a tad more accurate. I was using 38 grains give or take with the 105 Speer. I got 3/4" groups (5 shots) but get 3/8" with the H4350. Now I know that is not anything for a hunting rifle like mine to worry about but H4350 seems to work really good in my 7-08, 270, 270 Weatherby and 25-06 so I just buy it in 8 pound jugs and never look back. My 6x47 sports a 27" 10 twist fluted barrel in a 7 contour.
