reloader 17 in 243 win 75 gr bullet

Hi everyone
I was wondering if someone could help me out want to try reloader 17 with a 75 gr bullet. But can not find any data and was wondering if someone could tell where to start.

Thanks

Alliant lists 44 grs as a max load with an 80 gr bullet. I'm shooting Sierra 85 HPBTs with a little over 43 grs, not a max load. I used published 4350 loads as a starting point.

I shot some 87gr Vmax in my 243 Ack with 43.5gr of reloader 17 The primers were pretty flat! Be carefull again this was with a ACKLEY!

I don't have data from a 75 but I do from an 80, here's what happened when I load tested an 80 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip with Reloder 17 out of a 26" 1:9 twist:

2.800" (.005" off lands)
Federal brass
Rem. LR primer
R17:
41.0 = 3153
41.5 = 3210
42.0 = 3234
42.5 = 3259
43.0 = 3310
43.4 = 3348
43.8 = 3364
44.2 = 3398
44.6 = 3464
45.0 = 3493

Note how long I loaded it, if you go shorter your velocities will most likely go up and pressure signs should show sooner. I saw no pressure signs from any of these loads.

Wayne..
did notice any accuracy changes in your later test from 41.0 ~ 45.0 ?

i don't recall making a very good test with re 17 i only started to do a pressure
test an didn't get far... i may try again...

Edit: i also have 1~9 tw 26"

Rich,

The data that I have there I never tested for accuracy, I just loaded up incrementally a few rounds and popped them through the chrono to get some velocity numbers. I never got a chance to shoot any specific load for accuracy at distance.

That Reloder 17 is crazy stuff though, even at 3500 FPS with an 80 grain it didn't show any signs of pressure at all.

I'm a big fan of the .243 Win.

Ahhh ... did the same thing an i think i didn't go further because like you said it didn't show any pressure signs, i was gonna go back an test more but didn't get around to it.. i had a problem w/ he 243 at 100yrds couldn't find a load that shot the same poi i could keep all my shots in a Wide 3/4 group +/-, [it would shoot great as a hunter] ... finally went the other way an used imr3031 an it came in under 1/2" or less when i did my part ... now some of the loads that didn't group @100 did great out at 2 an 300yrds, something to do with over stableizing ?
i also found i wasn't the only one with a 700 HB 26" vls 9-1/8 tw that had trouble, luckily mind work out after LOTS of experiments..

Edit:.. i may go an try it again starting w/ 43.0 an work up.. i read it loads close to H4350 an should be save from there ?

Yes, data for H4350 almost interchanges with Reloder 17, I'd still go maybe .5 shy on the R17 just to be sure.

I assume you're running an SPS Varmint? Those things shoot, one of the better buys out there accuracy wise.

I didn't stop at 3500 FPS with the 80 grain for any reason other than I didn't see a need to go any faster, I know I could though. It'll probably be my coyote load next year.

the one i'm shooting i bought back about 5+ yrs ago new.. its a vls HB 26" 1-9 1/4 +/- an 1/8,... has a G pre-fix just broke 600 rnds recently put in a 2 oz basix an bedded the front lug barrel is free floated.. after i bought it i moved.. here... but didn't get back to shooting it i probably put 450 rnds on it this past yr.. Oh Happy Year 2010
i had a leupold on it but just took it off on added a Swift had thought of selling it
i may move it back now that it shoots the way i want it to..
i'm getting into 6Br bought one used an i'm looking to put a switch barrel on it in .30Br
to many guns an to many options but it keeps me happy...

Edit:... i'd looking to do a P'dog some day forthe firstime . not tomany critters on the coast like that..
