REINSTALLING BARREL

Hello
Just glass blasted a barrel and now would like some ideas on how to put barrel back on reciever without marking it.

Duct tape or Gorilla tape works as well. Lead shims are the old stand by - any residue wipes right off. I gave up on rosin a long time ago and am a firm believer in aluminum jaws instead of wood or steel bushings.

Toilet paper tubes ( we all have a lot of those) or the cardboard tubes from "Bounty" type paper towells. Make one cut down the length, wrap one around the barrel & you can even use masking tape to hold it tight on the barrel. The tubed cardboard will hold it's shape, and you can always add additional layers.

Just did 3 barrel removals and 2 installations, using my Davidson barrel vice & the tube I used still does not any cuts through the cardboard.

I used to use heavy brown shopping bag paper, but the cardboard tubes are much better.

Post-it notes work pretty well. And they have sticky on them to hold them to the barrel long enough to get them in the vise.

I read a tip on another forum where they said that brown sugar under the paper works way better than rosin. :) I have no idea if it works or not. Anyone else ever heard of this?

I just turned a nylon bushing and use rosin for most barrels. If I get a tight one, I go old school and pour lead bushings.

Drywall tape works like a champ. Any metal bushings are going to mark the freshly glass blasted surface of the barrel.
