Rem. 700 feed rails

Hello
I have been gathering up components to put me a nice rifle together based on a 700 Rem. stainless short action. Now when I say I have been gathering components I litterally mean a pc. at a time including action. I am building a rifle chambered in 300WSM, Krieger 5r 10 twist heavy varmint barrel. My reamer and gauges are on order from PT&G. The action was bought then a used mag. bolt then I purchased the mag box and milled follower, trigger guard and a good old Rmington trigger, the one with the heavy solid metal trigger.
Now what I need to know is how much I need to mill off feed rails to accept the magnum cartrigde. Any imformation would be greatly used.
Thanks

You'll need to have the barrel installed and the barreled action w/mag box and follower in the stock. Use a "slim" or "double extra slim" three corner file. It's all hand work. Make up some 'dumby' rounds, feed them slowly, so you can see where metal needs to be removed, so in the end, they're running straight into the chamber. Put it on a milling machine and you can make a mess of it, to the point you've ruined the action for ever feeding from a factory mag again. Heck,,,, you can make a mess out it with a file if you get in a hurry! If you don't have the patients, find a 'smith that can do the work. One too many strokes of the file can be too much and one more stroke may be all it takes to make it feed correctly.

+1 on shortgrass,

at the back, of where the case sits, the feed rails will need about a total of .010" over the width of the 300wsm case.
from there you may need a little more but don't start with more than .010" clearance.
