Refinishing old S&W mod. 60

I have a fairly old Smith and Wesson model 60. It was soot damaged fairly bad in a fire, I believe it was a stainless/chrome plated model. Most of the plating is gone. My question is will parkerizing adhere to it ? A magnet sticks to it.

Many thanks, Doug

Soot alone shouldn't affect plating though it will stain "stainless" steel; the 60 was S&W's first stainless revolver so it's not too likely yours was plated.

I'd be more concerned about heat damage that could have rendered that 60 unsafe to use.

Once you've determined if it's undamaged, you might want to consider salt-bath nitriding as I don't think conventional parkerizing will adhere to stainless steel.
