Reduced Recoil 270 Bullets for Hunting

Working up some reduced recoil loads for deer hunting for my Rem 700 Mountain Rifle and Ruger No. 1. My initial testing has my loads running about 2600fps for 130 grain using A5744. I also have a couple pounds of H4895 for the same purpose.

Out of the bullets below, which would you recommend (my current stock)? Shots no longer than 250 yards. I am leaning toward the Noslers. One of the nice folks on here suggested those as well.

Nosler 150 grain ABLR
Sierra 140 grain TGK
Hornady 120 grain SST (This one was screaming at about 2800 fps with reduced loads)
Hornady 130 grain SST
Hornady 130 grain Interlock SP
Hornady 140 grain Interlock BTSP

I also have Barnes 129 grain LRX and Barnes 140 grain TSX but no load data to be found for reduced recoil loads. Reached out to Barnes but no reply.

I know we’ve corresponded about this however as your stated purpose is reduced recoil I would be inclined to use the 120 gr. SST or either of the 130 gr. bullets. Any or all of the bullets listed will work well for deer however the lighter bullets will have less recoil all other things being equal.

I’ve had 1/2 MOA accuracy out of 150 gr hornady interlock sp using IMR 4831 in a browning Abolt. Speeds are running around 2630 with 53.0 grains ymmv.

110g Sierra pro hunter reduces recoil along with the 110g Barnes ttsx, they kill very well. There is a lot of recoil reduction in shooting the ligher bullets. I shoot a Ruger 77 Skeleton stock with these 110's and they kick a LOT less than the 140g at 3000.

Unfortunately, Sierra has discontinued the 110 Pro Hunter (and the 90 HP). Lighter bullets are a easy way to reduce recoil. Another 110 grain bullet to look at is the Nosler Accubond.

If you can,fit a sound moderator it will reduce recoil significantly and the lighter the bullet the less recoil in general.

Of the ones you listed In would probably look to the 130 hornadys at slightly reduced speed, maybe even the 150 accubond long range. Anything that will expand at low velocities
I loaded some 110 accubonds in a 270w for my daughter last year, at 3000fps or so they were significantly less recoil than standard 270w 130 gr loads. My very very small 11yo did fine with them. She did not get a shot at a deer to find out how they worked. I sold what was left to a member here.
One bullet that has not been mentioned that may be worth a try is the 120sst that hornady makes, but I never could find any in stock.

Lightest bullet works better for recoil. Just went thru this with a 338. Used barnes 160 ttsx and even running medium high charge for upper end of max velocity, it feels much less than 225-250 gr stuff at much lower speeds. So with that trend maybe try finding a 110 gr copper or accubond and see if any load data exists with powders you can find. Faster burn end stuff. Varget reloader 15 maybe. Nosler has data for 100-110 gr accubonds.
