reduced 300 Win mag deer load

The 125 Nosler Ballistic Tip is a fantastic deer bullet as long as you keep the impact velocity under 3000 fps. I shoot it with 46 grs IMR 4895 in my 308 Win which has a 21 1/2" barrel and it averages 3000 fps at the muzzle. Felt recoil is much less than what full house 150 gr ammo has. I also shoot the 125 BT at 2850 fps in my 30x47 rifle and at 2670 fps in my 14" barrel T/C Contender Pistol in 30-30AI. All of these kill deer DRT most of the time and I have never had one go over about 50 yards. My buddy came up with the 308 Win. load for his girl friend that had trouble handling the recoil of 150s out of her Savage bolt rifle. She could handle the 125 load with no problem and when she killed everything she shot at with one shot and most dropped in their tracks I decided to give the load a try in my 308 Win. and I have used nothing but that load for about 15 years and I have never shot anything twice. I have killed 100 of so white tails with the 125 BT in the above listed weapons and never had to shoot one twice and over 90% drop in their tracks.

You need to shoot more rifles then, not everything needs to be maxed out.
I shoot lots of rifles and most are at their best near max. Go to any shortramge match and see what they run them 6 PPC's at. Go to a thousand yard match and see what loads guys are using. There is a reason for it. I also seen it in 22-250, 243, 222, 308 and others. I am not talking minute of deer. Matt

I don't mean to make sense...but the subject is DEER LOAD

I feel the same. ,why shoot a mag and put a can on it,,and why a camo stock with a stainless barrel. COOL FACTOR FROM YOUNGER GENERATION
The Can is to reduce decibels and recoil.
The camo/stainless is sold Nationwide and purchased by hunters of all ages. Stainless can be non reflective, not just reflective. I suppose there are many more preferences out there for firearms than we can imagine. They sell and companies keep getting requests. Don't think it's just a generational thing. It's just that there are unlimited options today.

Matt, your spot on. A huge percentage of cartridges shoot there very best at the highest velocities with a few exceptions. At least that's been my experience with most of my rifles. In fact I'm using my 284 right on a deer hunt where using 162 ELDs is giving me 3080 fps. Short action, 25" barrel and .2s for 8-10 shot groups. One hole groups and couldn't be happier. Yes, barrel life is horrible but there replaceable. Accuracy is King in this game. Sorry for the off topic.

As others have said, shooting a lighter bullet will reduce recoil more than reducing powder under a heavy projectile. Shot my 300 win mag yesterday sighting it in. I load anywhere from 125g BT to 208g AMAX depending on what I'm hunting and the recoil is very, noticeably different.

I suggest using a light bullet (125g BT) SLOW powder (so it still fills the case and prevents detonation problems at low temps) and starting load data ( suggest 77g H1000) and that will give you about 3100 FPS and that will kill any whitetail out there. ALso, this is about what a 308 would push a 125g BT at a near max velocity just for comparison.
