Redding Powder Trickler with A&D FX-120i

I’ve brought the balance with the intent to use it with Adam’s autotrickler (ordered). I’ve been using a Redding powder trickler up to now (which I like a lot) and noticed that it’s arm is too short due to the larger size of the FX-120i. Has anyone use this trickler successfully with the scale with mods, or do people just switch to a different one? Suggestions would be welcomed.

Thanks guys!

Lostcreek - Do you guys know if the “RCBS Powder Tricler-2 Upgrade Kit” will work with a Redding?

1Inbrdq – Yes I understand this, but I was looking to have the ability to use it in a situation where I was not using the autotrickler. I suppose I could actually just use the one that comes with the autotrickler but just run it manually…

Milo-2 – thanks!

Yes, that would be expected, but that is the easy part since I am also a woodworker but sitting on the side the snout of the trickler will not reach the pan.

Thanks, I have thought of that but don't know how well that actually works. No straws in the house but would not be against buying some. Do you have first hand experience with that trick?

Trickler sitting on top and trickling thru a funnel to the pan below?

That's about how I see myself throwing the heavier part of the charge from my powder measure when the scale comes in.

Thanks guys!

My bad. i did not read it right. I use a rcbs trickler with the upgrade and the fx120i. I put the trickler on a bullet box and it works well

That's interesting... I never thought of trickling or putting powder into the pan below with the cover on. The good thing about this technique is there would be no wind but a bit more work to get the weighted powder out. I do like the idea of being able to put the trickler on top of cover - may have to give it a go - thanks!

May take a bit of fumbling to find just the right funnel but I think it would work.

Doing that now with a Gempro 500 and it's good to go.

I drop powder while the A/C or heater isn't running and seat bullets or perform brass operations while it is. No drafts that way.

One thing I notice about the FX-120i is it has a big weighting surface which is good from the standpoint of being able to accommodate a lot of material. The downside is it acts like a large sail and is much more sensitive to wind than say the small GemPro250. The good news is it comes with the “breeze brake” and the top cover which can be used to shield the weigh pan.

I am thinking of using the funnel from the top approach which will allow the old Redding to also sit on the top. I will remove the front breeze break panel which will allow me to remove a weighing pan without taking the top cover off every time I need to do another weighting but the weighting surface would still be shielding on every side except the front.

That's how I use the trickler (Redding) by sitting it on the cover. No funnel is needed if the pan is centered.
