Hi all, I was using a redding Instant indicator in my dillon 550 (clamped Whidden Floating tool head) to tell me how much shoulder bump I was getting on some .223 cases I was sizing, and for 9 of the 40 cases I got an erronous reading of .010-.020 of bump, even though the shoulder bump was actually .002(checked with my precision mic). I pulled the 9 cases and put them through the indicator again after I was done with the remaining cases, and they still read the same error. I then trimmed, chamfered/deburred and then measured them again. They then read the correct measurement.
Has any one else ever run across something like this or have an idea what may have caused it? I've used the indicator for right around a year now and have never had this or any other issue. It's always been consistent, and verifiable, when comparing the results with measurements taken with the Hornady comparator or RCBS precision mic. So now Im wondering what could have been the cause of the error?
