REDDING DIE SET UP

I have a 30 br and am using lapua brass and redding competition bushing dies after loadin 125 gr BIBS I noticed .007 bullet runout, I then sized a case and measured neck for runout .007 I'm assuming I set the die up wrong . alittle help? thanks BOB

How many times have you loaded the brass? If this is the first firing on new brass, then I wouldn't worry too much. The run out will get better........

The brass has been shot 3 times I sized them up with a redding tapered expander , my load is 34.8 gr 4198 @ 2962 fps 6 fps ES . I just annealed cases then ran them thru bushing sizer then tapered expander, and re-measured 1 or 2 thousands straighter

I never use any kind of expander button with or after using a competition neck die. I'd bet that's were your runout is coming from.

I understand that you have to expand the neck to except a .308 dia bullet. I use a Sinclair expander body with a 7mm mandrels on 6.5-284 Lapua to neck up to 284 Win. I've been told that K&M tools work equally well and some folks like them better. First I wet a Q-tip with Shooter Choice FP-10 and run it in the necks, I also put a dab on the mandrel every now and then. I also use FP-10 for my neck turning. Being your going up several calibers you'd probably be better off doing it in steps, using two different mandrels. I learned this from one of the earlier treads, the gentleman who informed me stated that this is where having a T-7 turret press sure come in handy. I was having trouble with runout when necking up for a friends 7mmTCU and the problem was solved after I stopped using a tapered button.

CRF4FITTE:

Check the neck runout on a fired case that hasn't been sized. Clean the powder residue off the neck, gently) before you check it. We'll go from there, okay? -Al

When I made my first set of 30BR cases I expanded using using K&M 6-30 mandrel that does it in one step. The cases bent bad and never did straighten out completely after 13 firings. My next set I made by blowing them out with COW and then turned them. It worked great but I was worried about my barrel. The next set I'll neck up in steps insted of all at once and see how that works for me.

Sorry all did not mean to ignore you, I've been out of town . When I ordered my BR barrel I asked for a no turn neck I recieved a .330 neck barrel I with my lack of knowledge sent barrel back and they MCGOWAN PRECISION did what ever to enlarge neck area to make it a no turn neck. Now I have straight cases and crooked necks they graciously took barrel back and are setting it back and making it a .330 neck chamber. I've turned my necks and am now waiting for return of barrel I'll report findings later.
