Redding die question.

Anyone have a set of Redding 30br dies model number 84524? Its a non bushing fl die, non bushing neck die and seater . Im wondering if anyone knows the neck dimensions of these dies?

Thanks

Can you size a piece of brass and measure? Should get you within a thou or two of the actual measurement.
Ill have to look to see if i got any unsized/unturned brass around but i dont think i do.

I found a couple of pieces of unturned pieces and sized them and they came out at .3270 - .3275 so if I turn to .010 it would leave about .001" neck tension. Now if someone was turning to .009" it wouldnt size enough to hold the bullet.

make a wax casting?

I had the same booshite reply from the American Rifle Company (ARC) when I asked for the wire diameter of their firing pin springs so I could determine which weight spring I had in my Nucleus. Their Gen 1 receiver was experiencing mis-fires so ARC came out with two heavier springs.

You also asked on BRC. I posted this response there, if you haven't seen it...hope this helps. -Al

"I happen to have the f.l. die #91524 that comes in that set. With a 'plus' ZZ pin gauge, the neck is a snug .3270."

Pin gauge sets may not seem like a good investment but every time I use mine I wonder how I ever made due without them. They definitely fall under that "buy once cry once" way of thinking. I would also add a good digital postal scale to the list of handy items to own.

I bought a couple sets that get me up to 1 full inch. I use them all the time. They're definitely one of those things you'll use all the time once they're in your tool belt.

They wont tell you. I already asked them. The said it was proprietary information .
That right there would put Redding on my shite list and I would make double damn sure I told them.
There's a few angles to this.
  1. It's corporate policy. Anything that's not a published spec becomes "proprietary" information. Easy for the drones to follow without thinking. My company has the same policy, as well as all my clients.
  2. Like the children's game 'operator', they might tell you something, and before long, someone messes it up, and the information becomes FUBAR, with the claim still attached, "this, from the mouth of Redding!". You might think something like a number is not something that can be screwed up, but I have met too many dyslexic and dysphasic people to know better.
  3. Have you ever built machinery to stamp or form metal? There's a lot of engineering that goes into it, even something as simple looking as a sizing die. The numbers may change, too, as alloys may change.
  4. You might be miffed that they won't share the info, but in reality, the question of "what's the neck diameter" could be considered similar to "where's your hunting spot". You want the info, do the work, then share if you feel like it.

Some have already suggested pin gauges. You might consider a set like this from Amazon that covers 1/8 to 1/2 inch: Small Hole Gauge Set Telescoping Full Round Bore Gauge, 4 pcs
