Redding die boxes..aargh

Maybe you have the redding press and cartridge size they measured off to make the box?!

And to blow off my last puff of steam.. we know the reason why most of the boxes wont close is because of the case holder inserts...BUT the holes are all the same size for 223. The last 2 sets I bought for 7-08 and 6.5cm have the 223 sized case holders. So that theory is blown.

I just tried some dillon boxes I have and they fit my redding dies perfectly. They are also good quality, latch well and are not over sized. ( a 3 set fits) I called dillon and ordered some. 6 bucks each plus 10 bucks frt for a pack of em. I like dillon equip alot so I wont feel bad putting my dies in their blue boxes!

My box snaps closed perfectly. It is a bit of a pain in the ass to open, though, and has been since it was NIB. Why are people having trouble closing the box? Was I blessed with a new box (set is three years old).

With how mine are set up for the coax (add on micrometer and forster rings), the ring is a bit lower on the die and that pushes the die body up towards the top. With the micrometer on top it becomes too long to fit in the box with the ring in its groove, the micrometer is half an inch proud. Thats with it scewed in all the way, not at its normally used setting. If I try to set the die in so that the lock ring isnt in the groove made for it then it would fit length wise except they made the box a case block for some dumb ass reason and the rings are too wide for the box to close on them. I would have to completely disassemble it to get it to fit.

spent the last few days building my box,36x15,red oak with glass hinged top,set at a angle on the wall ,so they don't fall out.dividers and lables.20 sets so far,can move dividers.
yes,I use most,looks darn good!!

This is how my co-ax adjusted dies fit in the Dillon box. It even has a nice little post that fits 4 neck bushings. What else could a guy ask for!

Gotcha. Thanks for explaining.

I have all of my dies in Hornady die boxes. The are very large and they are stackable. Hornady #544600. About $5.00 or less. Take a look:

I like Forster boxes. They're large enough for all my doodads and have a real hinge, so they actually stay open when opened.

Shown above is a FL die, Wilson case holder, shell holder, shoulder datum gage, neck expander die, ogive gage and micrometer seater. Everything cartridge-specific that I want in one box.

A few years ago I got tired of all of them. After over 40 years there is a pile of dies in all sorts of shaped boxes. I finally just bought a crate of empty RCBS boxes. The standard labels are 3.5" wide and 1.0" high. Sometimes I just use a off the shelf label and write on them or sometimes use free Avery Software and print labels as to what is in the box. Works for me anyway. At least everything is now somewhat uniform and I have learned to live with green. :)

MAybe I am not as wound tight on it...I took a nice wood bit, chucked it in my drill, cut a hole where my COMP seat die head lined up, and in three seconds I had a "custom" Redding box, none other like it! Increased the value of that die set 50 Percent I am sure ;) and now my dies fit fine, and since they sit in the box unmolested for months before I pluck them out and put them in my press, I tend not to think on it too much. I like the die for what it is...dang good. Don't really care a wit about the box except that it has the right die in it when I open it, and it matches the one in the pile below it so it doesn't tip over the stack. Now if I could just get my stupid self to remember not to put the 223 die in the 243 die box....
