So what do you all do when you pay 150-250 bucks for a set of compet Redding dies and after you set the lock rings most wont fit back in the box?! I guess they would if Redding didnt make the boxes to be case loading blocks. Who the heck would use that anyhow? What would it cost them to make a better box?
Anyhow thats my beatch for the day after I looked at my shelf and have all these die boxes with lids open at 30 degree angles!

:mad:I'll join that rant! Bean counters and engineers trying to save space and materials. It's the same with power tool boxes.

cant blame you a bit. for the money seems like youd at least get a box that fits. this has come up on here before

here is the other side of the coin from a redding die user.
essentially all my dies are mounted in tool heads for my dillon
550's, i wish i did not have to pay for a box.
i keep some dies in loading sets in blue arko/dillon bins...maybe 3 or 4
sets used in hand loading competition ammo.

I don't like either the Forster or the Redding die boxes.
If you don't buy the long micrometer dies the Redding boxes are ok.

The older Bonanza boxes are better than tbe current Forster boxes.
The black CH boxes are similar to the old red Bonanza die boxes and work well for the fat Ultra seater dies. CH sells the black boxes at a decent price too.

I use RCBS boxes for a lot of other brands that don't come with a good box.

For the large Ultra seaters sometimes you have to pull out that special folding knife and whittle out the partitions in a die box.
I even have a few where the outside wall at the top of the die box had been notched out for a really long die.

I'm in total agreement with Y'all on this. With my first set of Redding dies, I thought the box might be pretty neat. Didn't take long to think again, and realize that it's a pain in the butt.

Maybe Redding will take notice our opinion. jd

I agree 100%, so I buy the Forster boxes from Brownells. You can also buy the same die box from Whidden but it is black. Both places are less than $10.00.

You arenet paying for a box. That plastic injected molded box costs a few cents!
The part I hate is when I have to get into the box and I have my 15 cases loaded with powder stuck in the holes on the lid. hah

if you put those lock rings back down to where the die fits, close the box, post them for sale and buy some whidden dies you'll be alot happier in the end :p

I had a set of very expensive whiddens. I didnt find them to make any better brass than top end reddings. I actually had a defective plastic bullet seating cup on mine but no big deal could happen to anyone who deals with plastic stuff. I thought the whidden box was flimsy compared to the reddings/rcbs type. Either die would work fine for me.

Are you using a Forster Co-Ax press? I have that problem often the way my dies get set.

I don’t like the Redding boxes due to the way the latch is orientated, it always scrapes my knuckle on my thumb everytime!
Other than that I like that you can store shell holders AND spare pins in the ONE box.

I find Hornady die boxes and their dies to be terrible and no longer own ANY.

I have RCBS, Redding, Forster & Lyman in my reloading room. All function as they should.

Cheers.
