Redding comp case trimmer

Hello
About a year ago I purshed this ( not aloud to say what I think of this thing) so called case trimmer. I thought it would be the answer to my trimming troubles and cases being trimmed to the same lenght every time. this thing is junk from the word go I have thrown at least twenty or more cases away with different lenghts and never tuched the micromiter once. would anyone know of a good case trimmer made in america? thanks for reading this and dont waste your money on this junk trimmer.

thanks sevenfal@verizon.net

If all you want is sammi length go for the Lee system, works great, simple and the same every time,, And inexpensive.
You CAN actually cut beyond sammi if you want with just a little adjustment.
I always here guy's cry about not liking the trim process, with the Lee stuff it's too easy! ;D

I've experienced some of those same issues with my Redding trimmer, so you're not alone.

For those of you that recommend the Wilson trimmer, is this the same as the Sinclair/Wilson trimmer? If so, is this part number 05-425 in the Sinclair catalog? Is the upgrading to their Ultimate trimmer kit, part number 05-475 a worthy upgrade?

Get the one with the shark-fin for holding the case holder. It is very handy and speeds the process up a bit as well. I would personaly forgo the micrometer since it is very easy to adjust trim length to within .001" It might take 5 minutes to adjust if your very slow going about it. Adjustment really is a snap once your familiar with the wilson. I have had experience with all the major brands under $150.00 except Lee. They are all junk. the wilson/sinclair unit is the best period. Good luck and good shooting!

WILSON,
I bought a wilson, then I bought the new wilson with micrometer, and shark fin, I love them both! I have two power rcbs, two old style rcbs trimmers the redding, and a lyman they only collect dust since I bought the wilson :) I actually gave most of my excess trimmers to friends, however if I was a real friend I should have thrown them away and bought them a wilson!
Wayne.

P.S, your case mouths will be square and the cases will be the same lenght every time. And with the micrometer if you log what you trim @ it is easy to repeat with the first piece you trim not the third or fourth piece of brass like the other trimmers!

Well, after doing a bit of research online this evening, I was thinking the Wilson was the way to go, and several of you have confirmed that. However, somewhere in this research I ran across the Giraud trimmer and that seems like it may be the best option available, albeit at a much higher price. I hate case prep, but assuming it is as precision as the Wilson, it looks like the way to go. Other than the high price, I've yet to see one negative thing about it.

hello

Thanks for the response and for the advice from everyone. I was very mad when I sent the e-mail and did not explain I've been loading for around 40 years and know how to load I was just mad about paying well over a hundred and fifty dollars for what I thought was a good case trimmer with a good company. I guess I was wrong about quality products from a good company and I've seen on this web sight others that are having the same type problems and the redding company seems not to care at all. The brass that I had to throw away was 6br lapua and at the price you pay for this it just made me mad.

Thanks a lot Sevenfal@verizon.net

It all depends on what you need to do. If prepping small batches of brass, the Wilson works fine; like for BR, F class, etc. If you're prepping larger batches, like for tactical matches, the Giraud is really hard to beat.

I havn't used the giraud but would have to agree with this post, but I have a older redding and it does as good as job as most any of the trimmers that hold the brass from the head. But Sevenfal how did you ruin the brass, did it trim it so far you can't even use it for foulers or for sighters?

Hello bozo699

thanks for your reply on the trimmer. The thing cant even trim the case square on the neck, I talked to different guys who reload and they said I should have sent it back . I talked to one guy who did send his back and was told there was nothing wrong with it. As I said before I've been reloading for 40+ years and know a little about the sport. In answering your question the cases were just to short for anything except junk just like the trimmer that cut them. Thanks for the reply.

thanks a lot sevenfal

sevenfal,
Thats definitly a bummer, with all the fine equipment they make its sad about there trimmer and it make's one wonder about there customer service >:( The BR comunity has been soley responsable for making redding rich, and one of the #1 reloading equipment manufacturers out there. You would think they would take better care of there valuable unsatisfied customers.

I have both the Wilson,as tricked out by Sinclair, and the Giraud.I use the Wilson for my match ammo and the Giraud for my higer volume stuff. You have to change a few parts on the Giraud to trim different calibers. This takes several minutes,so I don't use it on all of the calibers that I load.
I just read on another forum that PT&G is making a carbide cutter for the Wilson that is very reasonable.

Just a short note about redding.I had them make a custom set of 5.7 johnson spitfire dies.(22-30 carbine) I got them and none of the sized cases would chamber in the gun.A friend made a reamer and made me another fl die,his worked. I ran into the owner of the redding company, told him my problem ,he just said we dont make kmistakes like that, then he proceded to insult the fact that I had a set of rcbs dies in my hand.He called them junk.Since then I have forgiven his arrogance and I do own many redding dies and they are fine. It is a shame when a small business grows so fast they forget who put them in the success story.I love my gracey and my wilson which is the best made period.

Well, I had the exact opposite experience with Redding just last week. I bought a 6BR die set and discovered it was shipped with .0625 decap instead of .057. I called, they apologized and said they'd get them right out to me, they arrived in the mail today. Obviously this cost them virtually nothing, but it was still good service.
