Redding bushing die question

About 3 years ago i bought a Redding competition die set (bushing) for 243win. I love them and it makes GREAT handloads for me, now here is my question. Yesterday i bought a custom 260 remington. Can i use this die set since its the same parent case and just buy like .293 bushing for it? The guy i bought it from said he used a 243 seater die to load for this rifle. I guess im really trying to not buy another $250 die set but will if i have to.

The answer is yes and no. First the sizing die. You will need to have the neck opened up in the die to accommodate the larger neck size of the 260. You can then just use the appropriate bushing.

If you are using the competition seater die with micrometer top, then most of this would work. You will need to change the sliding insert as this is matched to the case and probably the bullet seater stem as well. You should be able to order these from Redding.

Hope this helps.

AndyTaber's correct. I'd only add you can buy dies separately from Redding and others rather than pricier sets. Check with Redding to see if they'll sell you the seater sleeve & stem for their 260 die, your micrometer top will work on any seater.

Opening up a 243Win sizing die to take 260 necks likely will ruin it for 243 necks down the road, you'll lose a critical bit of the shoulder-forming area at the neck/shoulder junction.

Changing the bushing isn't all that needs to be done. The neck of the 260 case will be too large to fit into the neck area of the die that is just below the bushing. This would need to be enlarged.

Running a 308 win. case into a Redding 243 win. FL S die, with no bushing installed, produces a neck sized to .278" OD. In other words you cant use a 243 die for a 260. I had to try it. ;D

Buy the proper sized F/L Bushing die for the prescribed caliber. There are no short cuts in this expensive sport if done correctly. :)
