Redding BR 3 vs Dillon powder measure

Do I have it right that using a Redding BR3 with a Hornady case activated powder drop will be easier to change amount of powder thrown and will be somewhat more consistent than the Dillon powder measure on the 550B?
I'd be using it for 223 cartridges.

The reason I'm thinking to make the change is adjusting the Dillon is driving me nuts. The measures seem to have become more sensitive than I remember. To change a 1/10 gr requires the teeniest movement in the screw. And, it seems to jump when changing direction.

I have been using a BR3 for over 10 years. While the adjustment knob is 'mushy' at best, it's fairly easy to dial in a charge.

Thanks

I find with the Dillon 550B powder measures - new AND old style, require two items to be consistent. Return spring at the top - white plastic at the back of the slide around the bottom of the funnel of the hopper.

As important, is me. SAME throw, EVERY time....ALL the way down, ALL the way up.........EVERY time.

Also found aftermarket knobs that make adjusting the powder bar a LOT easier - pick your favorite color - everybody is making them on their printers at home now.

What is this? There isn't any plastic on mine - mine were bought in 1992.
There printed out and sold at places like eBay or maybe inline fabrication.... Of those two I would buy from inline fabrication , great to deal with... There are a bunch of after market stuff for Dillon...

Without a doubt, do the redding and case activated die. Hard to believe dillon hasn't come out with a new design.

Has anybody seen testing of a rotary drum style thrower that shows it outperforming the Dillon while riding on the machine and case activated?

In my own tests, I have not had results with case activated rotary drum doing any better than the Dillon slide bar type.

What is the ebay name for this white plastic slide?
Lots of other Dillon Powder Measure items, but couldn't find anything on this.
Also couldn't find these on the Inline Fabrication site.
Thanks

Talked with the Dillon people several times at shows:
Have asked why they didn't make a primer slide bearing and a better powder measure adjustment system.
They all seemed to be well programmed in the "Glock Perfection" attitude.

From the Dillon site, the blurb for the 550B/650/750 powder measure:

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>
This Dillon Precision Powder Measure is for the RL 550 Series and XL 650 Reloading Machines.
  • The Super 1050 Powder Measure can be found here.
  • The Square Deal B Powder Measure can be found here.
  • The SL 900 Powder Measure can be found here.
  • To upgrade an RL450 or AT 500 to an Auto Powder System, click here.
For long grain extruded powders we recommend the Redding Match Grade Model 3BR powder measure be used with the Dillon Powder Measure Adapter and RL 450 Powder Die.

That should pretty much answer the question, depending on what powder you're using.
