Redding Body Dies

Will a Redding Body Die do the job as a Small Base Die? I know it only sizes the body and not the neck. But will it size the body the same way as a small base Die

In my experience no... I had a gun with an over sized chamber so in order to size the brass down to fit my tr rifle I had to get a small base die .....

I am confused. Why would you size the body and not the neck? You still have to size the neck separately to hold the bullet.

Small base dies I have found very good for resizing brass from AR type rifles but I've also used them to take the click out on a couple of barrels in the past.
Yes, you still have to run them thru a neck die to finish the job.

Why not just use a regular full length die?

Small base dies have slightly smaller dimensions on the body of brass compared to FL dies. Makes for easier chambering in gas Guns primarily.

Also good sometimes for Fireforming to chamber.

You can but, it needing the base sized to minimum dimension, you will need the small base FL sizing die.
They are made for certain calibers; 223 and 308 for sure.

Yes, you still have to neck size. I do not have a custom FL sizing die so I use a body die and then I use a Lee Collect Neck Die.

The reason for the original question is that I started loading for a M1A SM and I want to ensure my resized brass is FULLY chambered and the bolt is completely locked before I send one down the tube!
