Recutting bad checkering

No way will that ever clean up enough to look good.
I do a lot of recut checkering and wouldn't touch that one..
By the time you point the flat tops up you will have pretty deep line to deal with..
Your best bet is to remove what is there and start over again........
 
I don't know if this is stamped or not but it definitely has digital programming lines. I've no idea if that technology was used to make a stamp which transferred to the stock or not but it doesn't appear so to me.
It's more along the lines of a dot matrix printer I think. Either with a small diameter cutting head or a small diameter punch.

Either way it's a hot mess and I'm going to consider other options.

Another option would be to shave off the "diamonds" to give a recess, framed effect, then checker or stipple the panels.
 
Well I was thinking about using this for a learning experience because I'd be hard pressed to make it any worse. But if it's a lost cause I don't really want to spend time on it if even someone who knows what they're doing couldn't make it look good.
Is it pressed in or cut?
