Recrowning chrome lined barrel. UPDATE

Hi Guys,
Any issues with cutting & Recrowning a chrome lined AR barrel? I have carbide insert tooling..... Thanks in advance,

The carbide insert is going to be harder than the chrome, especially if it's coated. I don't think that you'll have any issues at all.

That's what I thought, just wanted confirmation. I'd hate to try something & find out the hard way that it won't work ;-).

Let us know as I think the chrome might might flake as I'm not sure the carbide insert is harder than the chrome.

Here's the specs, hard chrome is 68 rockwell, carbide is 90 rockwell. Cut away.

Let us know how it turns out. I would be afraid of the chrome flaking.

+1 Don't they chrome the barrel after it is chambered and completely finished. I'd ask around some more before doing this....call up some manufacturers that use chrome-lined barrels.

Ok Guys,
Cut it & recrowned today, no apparent issues, but I haven't put it back together & shot it yet. Thanks for all the replies.

Proof will be on the paper. As a warning I tell customers who have chrome lined barrels of a risk.......have yet to have one come back. My bet is you are fine
