Record, Record, who's got the Record???/

I've been following the discussion on a different site in regard to the subject of a 600 yard world record.
Since we have IBS, NBRSA, and now Williamsport all of which have records how do we determine exactly who's got the World Record? Does it have to be shot in a sanctioned match, or do Club matches count? Reason I ask is that Terry Brady shot his .645 in a club match. If that doesn't count then how can Williamsport count anything since they are a Club unto themselves and not affiliated with any organization? So wouldn't that be considered a club match also????
Do we then have three separate world records one for each entity?
Simple thought would be we only count a record shot in a sanctioned match regardless of affiliation. However I don't think it can be that simple.
I'm not posting this to take anything away from the different guys who have shot these sub .750 groups. On the contrary I think they should be recognized for some great shooting and when it's a record they should have it, but I'm confused as to how to do this.

Any thoughts anybody?

This one is not hard to figure out. Any shooting that has different records will be considered that way. World records mean nothing unless all Organizations shooting that same event agree to accept the group or agg shot.
If no agreement to honor such records they stay records for the Organization shot. Club records are just that only good for hanging on their wall.
What we have here is an ego event trying to get everybody to agree my record is better than yours. My take is that unless you were lucky you should be able to set records in either mentioned Organizations if they will let you have their records, the key word here is let. Politics can decide who is allowed to have a Record also.

Is this how you 1000 yard guys look at it? You have a similar situation. So who hold the real world record at 1000 yards?

In this sport I think any club match witnessed by other members
should be recognized. From what I see and read around the country that won't happen. I keep my own records. I have a 1000 yard group pasted on my loading bench 3.70 witnessed by my brother and myself. Thats all I care about.

The smallest 10 shot 1000 yard group ever shot in comp is 3.151 inch's shot in 1995...That is the Real world record

The key word here is "world". It should not be used. There are NBRSA records, IBS records. Williamsport records, etc etc. And even a Dave Brokos record.:D I have to agree with Steven here,GASP!). Calling an organization record a "World Record" is an ego trip. JMHO

All records to be recognised must be shot in a sanctioned match,Zone, State, National or World ) competition. And would be either NBRSA,IBS,WBSF or what ever assocciation & Rules you are shooting under. Not sure how things are run that side of the pond But thats the wayi read the rules from this side as there are variations in rules and rifle weights etc.
Any records shot at our club Matches eg: Hunter/Class are Club records as we shoot more than one shot per target to save on targets.
While we are on this subject i hear on the Shooting Vine that Barney Lawnton has shot a remarkable score at 1000 yards be it a World Record or not its dam good shooting also a couple of others the same day shot 100+ Now the equipement List says he was useing a 300 WSM But others say he was useing a 6.5X47 and still others say they have spoken to him and it was a 6X47L can we get verifacation of what he was shooting does anyone know for sure i have sent him an email but as yet have no reply.
