Recommended Neck Clearance

I have a .284 with a .313 neck. What is the recommended or preferred minimum, maximum clearance I should have after neck turning with a loaded round? Is it recommended to allow for any thinning of the wall after it's been fired a few times, if so how much?
Appreciate the help.

Around .002 neck clearance to start. Your necks should get thicker after shooting several times, not thinner. Is your loaded cartridge or your chamber .313? A factory chamber could have a lot more clearance depending on a lot of factors, reamer, brass, sizer die etc.

Generally speaking, I believe 3K clearance between a loaded round and the inside of the chamber is a good rule of thumb.. However, it has been my experience that a 7mm (for whatever reason) likes 4K or better clearance. It was that way on my 7mm-08's, 7mmMag and now my .284 Shehane... Can you get away with less>> probably, but why?

On the other hand, I have found 6mm's do not mind less clearance. I still get 3K on 6mm's too...

You want .311 or less for a loaded round. 310 would be ideal for the .313 neck.

What he said.

I first ran my 6mmBR with 0.00075" (3/4's of a thou) total clearance and it was a real princess (nightmare) to live with - I re-cut my cases to 0.003" total clearance and it is a joy to shoot and very predictable.
