Recommendations: Rechambering a Savage Elite Precision 338 Lapua Mag--> 338 LM AI

Im
Did he use the barrel nut or did he headspace/ fit the barrel "nutless" like a Rem or any other rifle? lol
Im not sure,He took his rifle home with him to Georgia from my house in TX.It appears to me in the photo that he used a thinner nut and screwed in in too.I will ask him when he gets back from shoulder surgery

Thank You all for Your input. Its all excellent and appreciated.
I decided to just shoot the 338- 30" Factory LM Barrel w/ both 300gr A tips and working on a 285 gr ELD load- powder charge, seating depth, etc. both with RL 33. My 300 gr A tip load LOVED 102.5 gr RL33 and I think it's a 3.70" OAL- I believe that's 15-20 thou off the lands - average of 20 with a comparator.

Seems like the "go to load" for now unless I can tune up these 285gr Horn ELD's.

Great common-sense advice which is what I needed due to NOT an Unlimited Budget and just stepping up from 600/ 1000 yd F class with a 260 AI then 6mmbrx at Camp Butner here in North Carolina and a few other more local ranges out to 600 yd- small bug hole groups.
My shooting coach, really good friend who was in his mid- lat 80's passed away a year or so ago and I've just lost interest in F class w / out him. So, I found some great guys here in NC that love ELR / smacking steel, LR hunting, etc. and this - to me- is more fun than bug holes, just because I did that for so many years.

Time for something new. Guess you can teach an older dog new tricks.... lol

I miss my buddy Norm.... He is/ was a great guy and taught me Sooo much.
