I want a barrel optimized to shoot .310" or 311" bullets up to 154 grains from a 7.62x39 cartridge case. So I need a groove diameter of .310"-.3105"-.311" and 1:14" twist. Once I source the barrel, I'll need to have it chambered with a 7.62x39 Lapua reamer or equivelent. The Lapua chamber has a much better throat design than the 7.62x39 C.I.P. or SAAMI chambers.
McGowan offers a 7.62x39 Match chamber and KAK offers a Semi-Match chamber, both of which are almost identical to the Lapua Chamber. JGS makes an exact copy of the Lapua reeamer as their print #3514. Neither offers a 1:14" twist in a .310-311 barrel.
McGowan does offer a .311 barrel in 1:16" twist with his 7.62x39 "Match" chamber. I just received one of these for an AR15 that I've just started the break-in process on. I have a second one of these barrels on order from McGowan as a pre-fit Savage barrel. They are optimized for 125+/- grain bullets, so I'll only use them with bullets of 130 grains or less.
So, is there anyone who is making/can make 1:14" twist barrels in this bore size?
